Durham Business School online MBA


Executives wanting to return to school to earn their MBA need a program that allows flexibility for them to be able to continue working while attending school.  Durham Business School, located in Durham, England has a distance learning program that is able to be tailored to fit the applicants’ needs, whether it be an overall MBA or one that is geared more towards their chosen career.  Durham Business School is part of Durham University, founded in 1832.  The Business School was started in 1965, with it’s distance learning program adopted in 1985, and in 2008 was ranked in the Financial Times Top MBA Providers.

Applicants will need to have a first degree from an approved university or the professional equivalent and at least 3 years work experience in a managerial capacity.  If English is not the native language, the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) will need to be met with a 6.5 or the written Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 92 on the internet based test.  The Test of Written English (TWE) score of 5.0 or above will also be considered.


Classes run from January to June and July to December with exams taken in June and December.  Exams can be taken at conveniently located centers nearest to the students’

location.  The program is a 2 to 5 year program, with 3 years being the average time to graduate.  There is also a Fast Track offered that is only takes 2 years to complete, but it is the same program, only taken at a quicker pace. The distance learning is complemented

with online seminars, discussion forums and residential seminars.  There are 2 residential seminars held in Durham during a long weekend, Friday to Monday in March/April and September.  This is the only part of the program that attendance is mandatory.

Durham Business School is 1 of only 11 schools in the UK with 3 accreditations, with them being AMBA, EQUIS, and AACSB. The average age of Durham Business School students is 37 years of age with an average of 12 years work experience. The classes usually count out as 24% female and 76% male.
